DIY wedding flowers, done properly

Couples who arrange their own wedding flowers typically spend 40 to 60 percent less than a comparable full-service quote. The stems are identical farm-direct product. The difference is the labour, and you are the one doing it.

Buckets of assorted bulk flowers conditioning before a wedding

Sorted, labelled, and early on purpose

Your order arrives two to three days before your event, in refrigerated transport, packed by flower type. Each type comes with its own conditioning notes in the box, because a large share of our bulk orders are unpacked by someone doing this for the first time.

The early delivery is deliberate, not a scheduling convenience. Flowers ship closed. Roses in particular need 24 to 48 hours in water to open. A rose that looks impressive the moment it lands has already spent most of its vase life in a truck.

We deliver to whichever address is actually doing the work. Your house, a friend's garage, the venue's prep kitchen. Tell us at quote time and we route it there rather than to the venue on Saturday morning, which is the arrangement that goes wrong most often.

What you will need on your side

  • One 5-gallon bucket per 4–6 bunches, washed with soap
  • A sharp knife or floral cutters, not household scissors
  • Flower food (we include it, but bring extra)
  • Floral tape, wire and ribbon for personals
  • Containers for every arrangement, counted in advance
  • A cool dark room for three days

Containers are the supply line that quietly becomes a large number. Count them before you order stems, because container count determines stem count.

Four honest questions

DIY is one of the best-value decisions in a wedding budget, but only for the right couple. We would rather you answer these now than discover the answer on a Thursday evening in June.

Do you have four people for one evening?
Not 'people who might help'. Four names who have said yes to a specific Thursday. Four people for three hours is a comfortable wedding. One person for twelve hours is a bad week.
Do you have somewhere cool to keep flowers for three days?
A garage in April is perfect. A house without a basement in July is a genuine problem. Hundreds of stems take more room than people picture.
Are you willing to strip foliage for an hour?
It is the least enjoyable step and the one with the biggest payoff. Skipping it is the single most common reason DIY flowers look tired by the ceremony.
Is the bridal bouquet something you want to practise?
It is in more photographs than anything else and you get one attempt on the busiest morning of your life. Plenty of couples DIY the centerpieces and buy the personals. That is not a failure. It is the right call.

The split we recommend most often: DIY the centerpieces, buy the personals. Centerpieces are repetitive and forgiving. Bouquets and boutonnieres are fiddly, photographed constantly, and the pieces couples most regret rushing. See ready-made arrangements.

The three guides worth your time

Common questions

Do you deliver, or do I collect?
We deliver. Every order travels refrigerated from our cooler to the address you give us, on a date you choose. There is no shop to collect from, and cold chain is the single biggest factor in how long cut flowers last.
Do you sell loose stems as well as finished arrangements?
Yes, and a single order can be split between the two. Bulk stems for the reception tables, designed florals for the bridal party, one delivery and one invoice. A national bulk site cannot make you a bouquet, and a traditional florist will not sell you loose stems.
When will my flowers arrive?
Designed arrangements arrive on the day of your event, finished and ready to place. Bulk stems arrive two to three days beforehand, which is not us being early. Flowers ship closed and need a day or two in water to open. You pick a date and an AM or PM window, and we confirm a narrower window 48 hours ahead.
How is this different from ordering bulk flowers online?
We hand you the box cold, on a date you chose, and we can fix a problem the same day. A national bulk site puts stems in a carton and hands it to a carrier: it arrives when it arrives, sometimes warm, sometimes crushed, and a refund does not fix your Saturday. That difference is the whole reason to buy bulk locally.
What happens if a flower I ordered is not available?
We substitute variety, never colour. If your order calls for blush roses and a named variety falls short at the farm, you get a different blush rose of equal or better grade. You will not get pink, and you will not get a phone call the day before asking you to choose between two roses you have never heard of. Anything larger than a variety swap, we contact you first.
What if something arrives damaged?
Photograph it and contact us within 24 hours of delivery. We replace, credit or refund the affected stems, your choice. Because we are local, replacement is usually a real option rather than a refund you cannot use. The 24-hour window exists because after that it becomes impossible to tell a transit problem from a conditioning problem.
