Seasonal Flower Availability Guide for Colorado Weddings

Most of what we deliver is available year-round, because the global cut-flower trade is built that way. A handful of things genuinely are not, and a few more shift in price and quality enough that the season is worth planning around.

Here is the honest version.

Available every month

These do not have a season in any practical sense. Order them in February or September and you get the same product.

• Roses and spray roses
• Carnations and mini carnations
• Alstroemeria
• Asiatic and Oriental lilies
• Spider mums and poms
• Baby's breath, statice, hypericum
• All greenery, eucalyptus, ruscus, salal, leather leaf

If your palette is built from this list, your date has essentially no effect on what you can order. That is a genuinely useful thing to know when you are choosing between a March and an October wedding.

Genuinely seasonal

Tulips: February to April

Reliable supply runs February through April. Outside that window we can sometimes source them, but both price and quality become unpredictable, and we would rather tell you than take the order and hope.

If you want tulips, plan a spring wedding. If you have a spring wedding, order them early, March and April supply gets committed well ahead.

Sunflowers: best June to October

Available most of the year, but summer and early autumn is when the heads are largest and the price is lowest. A February sunflower is a smaller, more expensive sunflower.

Hydrangea: best May to October

Year-round, but quality peaks in the warmer months. Winter hydrangea tends to have smaller heads and shorter vase life. It is already the most demanding stem we ship; a January order needs the conditioning steps followed exactly.

Seasonal Fall pack: September 1 to November 27

Burgundy, rust, bronze and deep gold, built around what the farms are cutting. Our busiest booking window by a wide margin, September and early October Saturdays at popular Front Range venues sell out of our delivery capacity months ahead.

Seasonal Christmas pack, November 26 to December 24

Red, white and evergreen for holiday parties, corporate events and December weddings. Corporate volume is heavy and delivery capacity, not flower supply, is the constraint. Book by early November for December recurring deliveries.

Month by month

January, Quiet. Everything year-round is available and well priced. An underrated month for a wedding if you want our full attention.

February, Tulips arrive. Valentine's week is the single tightest week of our year for red roses; if your event is that week, book by early January.

March–April, Peak tulip. Spring palettes at their best. Booking pressure starts building for summer.

May, Hydrangea quality picks up. Wedding season begins in earnest. Book summer dates now if you have not.

June–August, Peak season for both flowers and demand. Everything is available; delivery capacity on Saturdays is the constraint. This is also when heat and dry air are hardest on arrangements, see best flowers for Colorado's dry climate.

September–October, Our busiest window. Autumn palettes, aspen colour, and the best light of the year for photographs. Book six to eight months ahead for a Saturday.

November, Fall pack runs to the 27th, Christmas pack starts the 26th. Thanksgiving week is busy for arrangements and quiet for weddings.

December, Holiday corporate volume peaks. Weddings are few and get excellent service.

About "locally grown"

We get asked this most in Boulder and Fort Collins, and we want to be straight about it.

Colorado's climate does not support year-round commercial cut-flower production at wedding volumes. The growing season is short, the nights are cold, and the water economics are difficult. Some of what we deliver in July and August is Colorado-grown. Most of what we deliver in February is not. It comes from Colombia, Ecuador and California, like nearly everything in the North American trade.

What we can promise year-round is farm-direct: our stems come from the grower rather than through a wholesaler-to-retailer chain. That is where both the cost difference and the freshness difference actually come from, and it is true in January as much as in July.

If Colorado-grown specifically matters to you, say so at quote time and we will tell you honestly what is available in your month. Sometimes the answer is "quite a lot." Sometimes it is "almost nothing, and here is what we would do instead."

Practical booking advice

• Summer and autumn Saturdays: six to eight months ahead
• Everything else: three months is comfortable
• Absolute minimums: 10 days for bulk, 14 for arrangements
• Sympathy work: no minimum, call us

The constraint is almost never the flowers. It is how many refrigerated deliveries we can make on one Saturday morning, and that number does not change no matter how far ahead you ask.
